BORDER BROOK

SITUATED IN THE CENTRE OF THE CHATEAU, THE BROOK WAS RESTORED DURING AN EXTENSIVE RECONSTRUCTION IN 2018 TO HONOUR THE 200th ANNIVERSARY OF THE CONSTRUCTION OF ZÁMEČEK AS THE SYMBOL OF THE BORDER BETWEEN MORAVIA AND THE LOWER AUSTRIAN ARCHDUCHY

Hraniční zámeček (Border Chateau) is an important architectural monument in the Lednice- Valtice area, which has been listed on the UNESCO World Heritage Site List since 1996.

This beautiful, classicist structure was built between 1816 and 1827 by Jan I. Josef of Liechtenstein on the edge of the Hlohovec pond for the purpose of relaxation and rest and served as the summer residence for the noble family.

At the time the foundation stones were laid, the land belonged to Moravia. However, during its construction, territorial plans changed and the border between Markrabast Moravian and Lower Austrian Archduchy was shifted to the centre of the building.

It is not only the inscription on the facade, "Zwischen Österreich und Mähren", which reminds us of the significant division of the land. We are also reminded by the small stream, which originally flowed from a vase near the statue of lying nymphs, which flows in the centre of the castle and joins the Hlohovec pond.

The stream was restored during the extensive 2018 reconstruction as a symbol of the historical events linking directly to the establishment of the castle.
